I hope this blog motivates me to create more--to cook, paint, collage, build, photograph, maybe even try sewing someday. I want to make the most of lazy Sunday afternoons.

For my other journal, check out [info]before_moonrise.

The New York Times posts so many beautiful pictures; I've become obsessed. I saved all of these one day last week. There are probably so many more up now, but I'm scared to look or I won't be able to stop.

Question:

What are some fiction books that involve forms of art (other than writing)? Books that discuss music or visual art--painting, sculpture, photography, film, etc--in some way?

My boyfriend is designing a literature course with the theme "mixed media" (or maybe eventually "multi-media?") focusing on the way other mediums are explored in novels, poems, and short stories. I can't think of anything other than books about writers and writing, and that doesn't serve the mixed media purpose!

He only wants a few obscure choices, and others more canonical.

Stayed up late watching Animal Planet, and saw the most beautiful footage of a whale momma and her son. I'm so glad the dreamy ocean world exists.

I don't care much for jewelry, but this $5 ring caught my eye today.

More home stuff! I am mostly storing all these pictures for my own reference/inspiration. There will probably be more of this to come because: a) I'm just in that kind of mood lately, and b) I broke the lens to my film camera and have no digital, so I can't take my own pictures :(

But it's nearly summer, and I'll have two weeks off school and work, which = time to do stuff. Creative stuff.

Really I am just procrastinating during finals week. )

I am currently obsessed with home interiors, and I plan on spending a lot of time this summer preparing for my move. I should really keep better track of where I get all these pictures--online magazines, blogs, shops...

Maybe I'll scan the hard copies of magazine pages I've been saving over the years soon.

I cannot, cannot, cannot wait to start decorating my new home in the fall.

Oh, Anthropologie. You provide me with so many ideas of what to look for at cheaper stores and thrift shops.

I got my first Polaroid camera for my 12th birthday; it was my grandmother's, and I covered my door in pictures of my best friends and me, complete with corny captions written underneath each one: The Three Musketeers. Lean on Me. Aly and I came up with these ridiculous poses--I would lie on the bed pretending to chat on a cordless phone while painting my nails and staring longingly at a picture in a picture frame (as though it were my boyfriend). I would photograph her putting on lipstick. We thought these things were very mature.

The bulky cameras have been comforting friends to me in many social settings, and partners on solitary days. I suppose some day I'll scan the bajillion I have. Most are on my wall.

I took these a long time ago. I wish I could afford to stock up on Polaroid film before it's gone.

In the process of painting their kitchen and living room, my parents' have pulled out all sorts of things. The dishes look so pretty sitting out:

Somehow I ended up looking at NASA's website today and thought these pictures of Mars were so beautiful.

I have found the perfect summer job:

It's called "You Do The Dishes," and it's a coffee bar where you can paint pottery that they glaze and fire in the kiln! And it's so cute.

I have fantasies about working in craft shops, bakeries, small bookstores, and now this place. I just might submit an application...

It's the first day all week I didn't have to get up early, and I was awake before 6am! So I watched the second half of an old black and white film that was on tv, cleaned my room and bathroom, browsed apartmenttherapy.com, and decorated a shoe box that often holds keys, wallets, and other little things.

Unfortunately it's not a very photogenic box, so I leave you with some nice things I came across today--a pretty apartment and these handy directions on how to make a nontoxic bathtub cleaner:

Silky Scrub
1 cup baking soda into a medium-size mixing bowl
1/2 cup castile liquid soap
5-10 drops of antibacterial essential oil, such as lavender, tea tree or rosemary (optional)

1. Pour baking soda into a medium size bowl.
2. Add soap a little at a time, stirring continuously. Stop adding after your mixture has begun to resemble frosting.
3. Mix in drops of essential oil.
4. Store in an airtight jar for up to a year.

I want to submerge my hands in flour, knead dough, sprinkle pinches of spices intuitively.

I will start small. Grandcarol's fudge pie.

Well, I haven't had much time for crafts with all my school obligations, but I have been writing in my journal, taking pictures, making good food, and today I went to the kite festival.

I love the work of the3robbers so much that I want to attempt a solvent transfer soon.

I think this weekend I will set some time aside, if I can squeeze it in with the International Kite Festival!
